Japanese language
Undergraduate degree students studying at any New Zealand tertiary institution.
The Sasakawa Fellowship Fund for Japanese Language Education (SFFJLE) was established in March 1995 by an endowment from the Nippon Foundation to Massey University. The purpose of the fund is to foster Japanese language in New Zealand. Scholarships are for New Zealand undergraduate students studying at any tertiary institution in New Zealand. The Scholarships aim to support undergraduate study of Japanese language.
$5,000 per annum for 3 years
SFFJLE scholars become part of a national and international network with access to Nippon Foundation Fund- Japanese Language Education Program (NF-JLEP) resources and opportunities.
One scholarship is offered annually.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.
All applicants should be enrolled in or eligible to enrol in an undergraduate degree in Japanese language.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, leadership, and interest and commitment to Japanese language.
The selection panel comprises of members of the SFFJLE Management Committee.
During the tenure of the scholarship recipients must:
· remain enrolled full time (at least 105 credits) in an undergraduate degree in Japanese language
· must maintain a good academic record (pass all their courses with a minimum of B grade)
The Selection Committee may at its discretion refrain from making awards should there be no candidates of sufficient merit.
The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries, or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries, or awards permit co-tenure.
In recommending the award of this scholarship the selection committee may take account of other scholarships and bursaries held by the applicant with a view to achieving a reasonable distribution of available monies among qualifying candidates.
