Sophie completed her undergraduate degree at Victoria University in 2012 with a triple major in Political Science, International Relations and Religious Studies. A curiosity for exploring cultures and societies led her to participate in the Victoria International Leadership programme where she discovered international development.
Following her Bachelor of Arts, Sophie took five months to travel around Europe and South America. While spending time in Bosnia and Herzegovina she became aware of the complexity of post-conflict development. This experience was formative in her decision to study a Master of Development Studies at Victoria University, focusing on youth in conflict.
At present Sophie is conducting qualitative field research for three months in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, on behalf of the charity Creativity for Peace. Her thesis investigates young womens' experiences in peacemaking in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. From this Sophie hopes to assist the charity in better addressing the challenges its community faces.
Outside of university Sophie has enjoyed volunteering with Care, Share and Wear Wellington, Kaibosh Food Rescue and P3 Foundation.
Her love of travel and desire to work in the Middle East sees her learning Arabic in her spare time and pondering her next adventures.
