This scholarship is for students enrolled at any New Zealand university.
The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowships are offered annually from the proceeds of a very generous endowment received in December 1991 from the Nippon Foundation (then known as the Sasakawa Foundation).
Sylff is global programme aimed at nurturing leaders who initiate action, overcome differences, and address contemporary issues facing our world. The scholarship is to support research in the broad fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, or interdisciplinary studies that incorporate Humanities and Social Sciences by focusing on complex, wicked problems (e.g., sustainability, poverty).
The fund offers one Masters scholarship annually and one Doctoral scholarship every three years for students undertaking research in Humanities and Social Sciences and who demonstrate leadership qualities.
The Masters scholarship is valued at $31,000 per annum for one year.
The Doctoral scholarship is valued at $42,000 per annum for up to three years.
