School of Nursing

Massey’s School of Nursing works closely with District Health Boards and health organisations in New Zealand and around the world to improve the health of people and their communities. Our high-quality programmes are taught on all three campuses, and our supportive staff are at the forefront of research, teaching and leadership.

Our nationally and internationally recognised nursing programmes are approved by The Nursing Council of New Zealand. We prepare our graduates to be accomplished, highly competent and skilled nursing professionals, ready for rewarding careers in a wide range of settings.

Research expertise

The School of Nursing’s research focuses on primary health care and mental health as well as nursing development as it relates to the workforce, clinical practice, and patient safety and education. Our research is authentic and sustainable, and is based on respectful partnerships between researchers and the people with whom we conduct research. We seek to make a difference.

Nursing Council of New Zealand

Our nursing programmes are nationally and internationally recognised and approved by the?Nursing Council of New Zealand. Students who have completed Massey’s Bachelor of Nursing, can apply for registration as a registered nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealand. ?

Shanghai Ranking - nursing

Massey University is ranked in the top 150 universities in the world and second in New Zealand in the subject area of nursing by the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. The ranking is determined by a series of indicators such as the number of papers authored by an institution in an academic subject, international collaboration on papers, and the number of staff winning awards in an academic subject.

Head of School of Nursing

Professor Nicolette Sheridan

Nicolette is one of New Zealand’s most highly-regarded nurse academics. She is a registered nurse with a PhD in Public Health and qualifications in occupational health and education. She has led international studies and currently leads a 5-university study investigating the effectiveness of primary care delivery to New Zealanders (Health Research Council). She has tribal affiliations to Ngāpuhi.
