“My decision to study English and Media Studies fuelled a lifelong passion and curiosity. My love for literature, and all things associated with it, has been seeded in me since I was six years old. And media, in all its forms, is a very large part of how the world operates. It’s part of our personal and professional lives, and it feeds into everything we are and all that we do.
I chose to study at Massey University because it was one of the biggest universities in New Zealand and the variety of courses available, along with the papers to choose from, were quite amazing. I also knew that Massey offered a successful and supportive distance-learning programme.
Throughout my study I moved from Qatar to Egypt, which wasn’t easy. However, I knew that Massey was there for me every step of the way. My professors and my colleagues, many of whom I met through our online classes, were exceptional. Whenever I need help understanding something or questioning an assignment or even questioning my grades, I would always find support, understanding and respect. It was a wonderful experience.
A highlight of my time at Massey was the internship I did with the World Health Organization. During my three-month stint I was a web content editor, a journalist for W.H.O events, a speechwriter and a media liaison writing press releases and newsletter articles. It was a great experience that gave me the room to flex the things I was learning in university, whether it was the writing classes I took, including creative writing, fiction writing, travel writing and script writing, to anything and everything I did relating to social media, how to use online presence, how to analyse images in newspapers and magazines to how to report a story in the most honest way that I possibly can.”
