Associate Professor Margaret Brunton

Margaret Brunton is an Associate Professor in the School of Communication, Journalism & Marketing at the Auckland campus of Massey University. Before entering academia Margaret practised as an RN in both the public and private health sector. Her research interests focus on multiple aspects of the role of workplace communication in supporting a sustainable healthcare service in NZ. Current research explores the intersection between communication and practice between RNs in culturally diverse healthcare organisations. The goal is to identify ethically responsible, practical initiatives to help health professionals navigate the increasing demands and complexity of a rapidly-changing work environment.

Dr Andrew Chrystall’s research unfolds from the aesthetic-historical and interdisciplinary approach of Marshall McLuhan, the Toronto School of Communication, and Media Ecology. His research portfolio demonstrates sustained attention to the effects of media and the interrelations between culture and technology. In addition to his primary discipline(s)—Media and Communication Studies—Dr. Chrystall has a background in Public Relations, Sociology and Theology. He also had a vital and exciting career in a variety of “cultural” industries prior to becoming an academic. Dr Chrystall also likes surfing, playing judo and is an underwhelming jazz guitarist.
Associate Professor Craig Fowler

Craig has been working at Massey since 2012. Prior to joining Massey he spent 12 years in the United States where he earned a Ph.D at Penn State, and was a faculty member at California State University, Fresno. He was trained as a quantitative researcher, but still dabbles in more qualitative work.
He is on the editorial boards of Journal of Family Communication and Communication Quarterly, and is Vice-Chair of the Communication and Aging division of NCA (National Communication Association).

Chris joins many years of experience as a journalist and senior public relations specialist to his academic interests in issue, risk and crisis communication. He has taught at universities in both Australia and New Zealand.
His other interests include the Middle East, especially the way public relations techniques are used to present and position different protagonists. He travels to the region as often as he can. He also writes about the impacts of new technologies on PR practice, especially Artificial Intelligence.

Since 2017, I have been teaching strategic workplace communication in the BBS programme. After 45 years experience in community youth work and media production, I have recently moved into academia to pursue my interest in intercultural communication. For the past 20 years, I have been involved in social justice advocacy for immigrant young people and LGBTIQ* communities and I am interested in exploring the field of social advocacy communication. I am a PhD candidate studying perceptions of inclusivity in decision-making communication in organisations.

Dr Diyako Rahmani received his PhD in intercultural communication from the Univerity of Jyvaskyla in Finland. Diyako teaches courses in intercultural and interpersonal communication, communication competence, and media studies. His research is mainly focused on online communication apprehension in organizational and interpersonal contexts. Due to his ethnic background, Kurdish studies is also another area of his research.

Dr Henry F. L. Chung is an Associate Professor in Marketing. He has completed his Doctor of Philosophy with University of Waikato in 1999. Prior to this, he acquired a MBA degree in international business from The George Washington University in Washington D.C., USA and a BBA degree from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Henry’s key research areas include international marketing standardization/adaptation strategies, decision-making governance, immigrant effect and enterprises, market entry mode, managerial ties and guanxi (Chinese networking), marketing and entrepreneurial orientation, innovation and emerging market enterprises (EMEs).

Having used his marketing knowledge to effectively market himself he then helped to grow a number of small business to the point of being sold as viable ongoing profitable entities. He then did an MBA specializing in direct marketing to further his education....Simon thrives on business strategising and implementation.

Dr Sarah Dodds has over 15 years experience teaching marketing at the tertiary level, has owned and operated her own health business, and had the privilege of starting her marketing career with NZ tourism. Her area of expertise is Consumer Behaviour and Services Marketing with a health care focus. Underlying her work is the philosophy that marketing can be used to contribute positively to society and specifically to people's well-being.

Dr Loren Stangl is a Lecturer in the School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing at Massey University where she teaches Strategic Marketing Management and Market Planning. Loren's area of interests include innovation, entrepreneurship and internationalisation. She is a strong advocate of enterprise engagement and the Assistant Director of the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research Centre. Before coming to Massey, Loren worked in industry for 14 years. She was a co-founder and International Marketing Director for an Indonesian home decor manufacturer from 1990-2003 and Assistant Director of Marketing for the largest Chinese food distributor in the US from 1986-1989.

Director of Research - Massey Business School
Jonathan Elms is the Director of Research for Massey Business School, as well as the Sir Stephen Tindall Chair Professor in Retail Management. He is also the founding Director of the Centre for Advanced Retail Studies (CARS), NZ's 'centre of excellence' for retail research, education and scholarship.
Jonathan joined Massey in December 2014 after spending seven years at the Institute for Retail Studies (IRS), University of Stirling. At Stirling, Jonathan directed the IRS’ undergraduate retail marketing programmes delivered on campus and in Singapore.
He holds a BSc (Hons) Marketing, MSc Management, and PhD in Marketing from Lancaster University
